Mike Petrow brings Von Pea and Donwill to the studio
Mike Petrow, a music video director and producer living in Brooklyn came by the studio to shoot two music videos. He brought in Von Pea and Donwill, an American hip hop group that’s been active since 2003. Both music videos had parts of it shot here at Starr Street but each one had a distinct style to it. Learn a little bit more about how Mike has started his career and what drives him.
How did you make your start in your career?
I've been interested in video since I was young and making different types of content since. Likewise, I've been involved in hip hop music and started directing music videos after college.
Tell us a little about yourself and your work. What's your background? What's your artistic vision and what drives you creatively?
I just try and come up with fun ideas that can get to the heart of the songs I direct videos for. Sometimes clients have more fleshed out ideas and I follow their lead and try to bring their expectations to life, and more.
What was the focus of your Starr Street shoot? And how did Starr Street help facilitate it? How did it come out?
So far I've shot two videos at Starr. Both times the talent wanted studio style videos on a budget. I live in Bushwick and found the location extremely convenient for me and the crew. The staff was nice and accommodating. The videos both came out great if I can say ;).
What's next for you and your work (at Starr Street and otherwise)?
Right now I'm looking to work on a short for myself. And use star street for any other shoots or rehearsals
